Over the last year, I’ve seen a drastic change in my skin—and the best part is that it didn’t happen because of an expensive 12-step skincare routine. It came from consistency, a few products that truly worked for me, and making small lifestyle changes that I could actually stick with.
1. Water Became My Main Drink
I can’t honestly say I’m drinking gallons more water than I used to, but I can say that water has become my primary drink. Instead of constantly reaching for soda or juice, I naturally choose water most of the time. That one change has made me feel better overall, and my skin has definitely thanked me for it.
2. Consistency Is Everything
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that consistency beats perfection every single time.
I never skip washing my face in the morning, and while I occasionally miss a night here and there, I stay as consistent as possible.
I’ve tried a lot of cleansers over the years. La Roche-Posay has always been one of my favorites, but my current obsession is the St. Ives Apricot Cleanser. I kept seeing everyone rave about it, and after finally trying it, I completely understand the hype. My skin feels clean without feeling stripped, and I genuinely wish I hadn’t waited so long to give it a chance.
3. Tea Tree Oil Changed My Life
As someone who struggled with acne for years, finding something that actually works felt impossible.
Tea tree oil has honestly been a game changer for me. At the very first sign of a breakout, I apply it consistently alongside a salicylic acid cream. That combination has helped calm my breakouts so much faster than anything I’ve used before.
If you’re acne-prone, this duo might be worth looking into—but remember that tea tree oil can be irritating for some people, so it’s a good idea to patch test first.
4. Shea Butter Is My Holy Grail
Last but definitely not least: shea butter.
If you have dry skin like I do, you already know the struggle of trying to keep your skin moisturized all day.
Shea butter completely changed that for me. It seals in moisture and leaves my skin feeling soft, nourished, and hydrated for hours. Especially during colder months or whenever my skin feels extra dry, it’s the product I always reach for.
Final Thoughts
Healthy skin doesn’t always come from buying the newest viral product. Sometimes it’s about sticking to a routine, staying hydrated, and finding the few products that truly work for yourskin.
These four changes have made the biggest difference in my skincare journey:
- Choosing water more often.
- Staying consistent with cleansing.
- Treating breakouts early with tea tree oil and salicylic acid.
- Locking in moisture with shea butter.
Everyone’s skin is different, but if you’re on your own skin journey, I hope this reminds you that small, consistent habits really do add up. My skin didn’t transform overnight—but looking back over the last year, the difference has been incredible.
